The rehearsals are coming along well, and everyone seems to be enjoying the play and having some fun as well as working really hard. The blocking is all done now, and we’ve been working on the first act of the play.
We had some sad news last night as young Lorren has had to drop out because of school work committments. We are sorry to lose Lorren as she is a great asset to the company, and we all hope she’ll be back when things settle down.
Sheila, our new Scottish dialect coach, is wonderful and is whipping their Scottish into shape. I forgot last time to put a link to a great video I found while searching the web for dialect resources. It’s a bit off topic, but she’s really good at this. Here’s the link.
We also now have a fabulous poster, created by Lorren’s dad Dave, and here it is:

Rehearsals 2 and 3 went well, and we’ve almost finished blocking the first act now. (Blocking is basically telling the actors where to go: “You come in the door and walk to the chair and sit down.” and so on.)
The rehearsals have been fun, and while people are not on stage blocking, they’re generally off with Maggie learning Scottish and doing a fair bit of giggling. We did have a dialect coach lined up, but he unfortunately hasn’t been able to make it to rehearsals. We’re hoping to get another dialect coach soon, and are sending out feelers to the Scottish dancers. Meanwhile, I’ve found this website, and am downloading the dialect tapes for Edinburgh right now to give to the principals on Sunday. Some have a great ear for dialects, but others struggle more with them. Everyone is making great progress.
We had a production meeting last weekend, and people have been slotted into their roles. Some are new to their jobs, while others are seasoned old-timers. Our ideas on the set, costumes, props and so on are coming together. It’s all going well.
The photography for the poster should be done at the weekend, if we can find a costume we can use for Maggie’s lower torso. (Otherwise, this might be a very interesting poster!)
